KitCAD Selection Editor, Object Editor.

KitCAD Object or Item Selection can be done in 2 ways; selecting an object or item from the Plan View, or using the Drop-Down list on the KitCAD header bar.

Select the Object or Item to be displayed in the Drop-Down list, and press the Selection button.
You will see a dialog simmilar to the one above, the first tab is for Real World sizes. The second tab allows the user to view computer related settings, with the third tab being used for other projects. KitCAD users may opt out of filling in the information for the second and third tabs only. These are displayed below (object item colours can be set via the second tab):

KitCAD Fixed Objects or Items Editing.

The colour of the dialog will change a user enter a size in the PosX or PosY dialogs on the first tab of the selection menu after selecting the FIXED option. The first value shows the Real Pos while the Second is the computer generated version. A red dialog indicates an altered value. Teal should be the updated value.

To achive this you must apply the change, exit the object or item, and then re-select it with the selection editor. You will see the value has dialog has changed from red to teal indicating the update to computer screen sizes was made. The default colour is while and indicates no changes.

NOTE : Rule.exe and Ruler.exe are replacements for these editing functions in KitCAD 2.

KitCAD Library System Editors.

The KitCAD 1.1x program has a main drawing file it reads to display the user object item information in the Drop-Down lists.

Other objects or items can be setup via the third tab - it seemed better to have a function devoted to the drawing file KitCAD uses to get this information from. To display the Library drawing file for editing press the Editor Button on the KitCAD 1.x header bar. A dialog like below will be displayed. Note there is a new button on the first tab for the control of Drop-Down lists.

Library system notepad style editor

Once file names are added to this list, and the list is saved - KitCAD 1.x needs to be restarted for the new Objects or Items to be displayed in the Drop-Down lists. Other options for the Library editor are disabled by default.

The KitCAD Library System editor is a simple notepad style text editor.

KitCAD Editor Status.

Status bar

KitCAD has an option to display a status bar, and more. By looking in the Header bar of KitCAD you can find more options. The Plan View, Drawing View, and Render View screens may also be dragged to other monitors if your computer supports multi-monitor modes.
