KitCAD 1.8, and above, Header bar should be displayed like the following.

Some font sizes may differ from machine to machine.

If no Icons are diaplayed then download, and un-zip the following file to your windows system subdirectory.
Cp3240mt.zip

File extension icons for loading files. These include 32bit window file launch icons. more information on Desktop Icons is included.
